Bio-Innovations is a social business dedicated to transforming organic waste into bio-renewable fuel for heating in institutional kitchens, factory boilers, poultry brooders, and homes.
Our goal is simple yet powerful — to provide affordable, efficient, and sustainable non-carbonized briquettes as an alternative to firewood and charcoal, while fighting deforestation and its devastating effects across the region.
Our Story
Bio-Innovations was born out of a deep concern for Uganda’s rapidly disappearing forests and the growing energy crisis faced by communities.
We saw the rising dependence on firewood and charcoal, not because people wanted to destroy forests, but because they lacked affordable, practical alternatives.
With that realization, we decided to act.
We began collecting biomass waste such as sawdust, husks, and crop residues and transforming it into clean, long-burning non-carbonized briquettes. What started as a small effort to reduce waste and promote sustainability has grown into a movement that touches schools, hospitals, factories, and homes across the country.
Today, Bio-Innovations stands as a symbol of innovation, environmental responsibility, and community empowerment, proving that waste can fuel a cleaner, greener future.

Our Business Model
Bio-Innovations collects biomass waste from sawmills, plywood factories, agro-processing facilities, and agricultural fields, much of it gathered by women and youth.
The waste is dried, shredded, and blended to maintain uniform quality before being pressurized into solid, non-carbonized briquettes.
During this process, natural lignin in the biomass acts as a natural binder, eliminating the need for any chemicals.
The result is a clean, affordable, and efficient briquette, about 45% cheaper than traditional firewood or charcoal and capable of burning longer and cleaner.
